Runner of the Month – November

Our runner of the month November is Steve Forshaw.

Steve is a speedy and very dedicated runner who participates consistently in each of our team events, such as the relays and cross country. In fact Steve has completed nearly 70 Kent Fitness League XC races and has run the Swanley event 11 times! Steve provides great support for our run leaders, stepping in to cover hills at the drop of a hat, helping with routes and always doubling back to accompany slower runners. With our own cross country race at Minnis, Steve has frequently volunteered to check and set up the course, giving up most of the day to set out signs and clear ditches. In fact he has a long history of helping set out our races, marshalling and then supporting the clear up activities.

Steve has done brilliantly to recover from injury and he is one of our strong hill runners who sets the pace and encourages others. We think he is an all round nice guy and are delighted to recognise him this month.

Q. What attracted you to join TRAC?

After starting running in 2006 l was entering local races where l witnessed the team spirit and camaraderie of the running club members and wanted to be a part of it, so l joined Thanet Roadrunners. I wasn’t disappointed.

Q. What’s your best moment?

Doing my first marathon, after watching the London marathon on TV for year’s l applied for a ballot place and was successful in getting a place in 2008. On the day it was an amazing experience with the support from the crowd’s cheers. I felt a great sense of achievement as l crossed the finishing line.

Q. What would you say to a new person who is considering joining?

I would tell anyone wanting to join Thanet Roadrunners to go for it. The club members are a friendly and are very supportive to all abilities and the C25K scheme we run in January is an amazing way to start. Plus we have an great social side.

Q. What does the club mean to you?

The club means a lot to me because l’ve made some wonderful friends, some of which l have ran marathons with all over the country as well as abroad in Norway and Malta.
