Canterbury 10 – Race Report – 1st Club Champ Race

Fantastic start to the 2025 TRAC Club Championships and Kent Grand Prix series of races at the Canterbury 10 Mile

This Sunday, TRAC headed to Canterbury for the first instalment of the Club Champs in 2025. Canterbury 10 Mile is a regular fixture in the race calendar. Some runners look forward to it, relishing the challenge of the hilly course. Others, not so much. Whilst it doesn’t necessarily present the best chance of a PB , it’s a simple route which loops once around the outskirts of Canterbury’s roads and countryside tracks. The course is relatively undulating, making it hard to keep a steady pace. There are two major hills along the way: the first at around mile 3-4 through Bridge; the second approximately two-thirds of the way in at mile 7. Runners are wise to keep some fuel in the tank for the second hill, which then descends towards the finish line.

Thank you to the fantastic and encouraging marshals all around the course today.

In spite of the challenges it poses, TRAC brought an impressive number of 33 runners to Canterbury. It was brilliant to see so many blue vests out there today. Well done to all who braved the tail-end of Storm Éowyn and the first stirrings of Storm Herminia – it looks like we missed the worst of it!

Special mentions go to Alex Dugard who brought the men’s team home, closely followed by Matt McCarthy and Tom Harris. And Georgie Judge who was the first lady to cross the line, closely followed by Georgia Hughes and Brittany Crombie. This is a very competitive race and our team members placed very highly!

There were also many 10 mile PB’s obtained across team TRAC today, but well done to everybody who took part. Fantastic to have so much support for each other there today. And thank you to Charlotte B and Chris P for their amazing cakes and biscuits!

Many Congratulations to Chris Brenchley who picked up his V50 Kent Grand Prix Trophy for the 2024 season, awarded to him today after the Canterbury 10 mile.

Last year team TRAC finished the KGP in 3rd and 5th positions in the Men’s and Ladies team competitions, with many fantastic individual placings and age category top 3 finishes. Lets hope we can match or better this again this season!
