This month’s Featured TRACcie is Nikki Boyes, nominated by Julie Williams.
As Julie said, Nikki is one of the most encouraging and supportive members of TRAC – to everyone! Speaking from my experience, Nikki was a big part of encouraging me to join the club and try new events – relays, cross country and even to give marathons another go.
Aside from her great support for others, I’d like to nominate Nikki for her recent achievement at the Tokyo marathon, which was the 6th of the majors that she has successfully completed. This one presented a big challenge as she was recovering from a stress fracture of her tibia and had about 6 weeks to get marathon-ready, for an event with a strict cut-off time. Nikki did a great job of being careful with her training and finding a run/walk strategy that allowed her to complete in great time, while not aggravating her injury.
She set us all a great example by being considered, patient and then smashing her goal.
Q. Nikki, What attracted you to join TRAC?
A. I joined TRAC after I met Chris and he persuaded me that I really needed to start running and I would love it! We started with Parkrun in 2014 and haven’t stopped!
Q. What’s your best moment?
A. Achieving my 6th star in Tokyo earlier this month with Chris, and being lucky enough to share the journey with Jo and Jon. After the last 4 months I wasn’t sure if it was going to be possible.
Q. What would you say to a new person who is considering joining?
A. Go for it. It’s a decision you won’t regret I have made some great friends through TRAC
Q. What does the club mean to you?
A. It’s a great club with a real sense of community and inclusiveness. There is always someone to run with and either chat with for a social run or train with if you have a goal you want to achieve.
