Tuesday 5th May 2026 saw the start of the much anticipated ’Summer Relay’ series.
As 7pm approached a mass of runners made their way to the sea wall in Sandgate.
A huge thanks to all at Folkestone Running Club who hosted this first event and everyone behind the scenes who make the relays possible.
It’s always a bit tight on the sea wall for the first leg runners and it was great to see 1 minute waved starts for the A, B, C and D teams.
About 40 TRAC runners met at our flag on the pebble beach and were also joined by other club runners who’d come down to support. Thanks Ade and Gary.
Some last minute changes caused the captains a few headaches but we got there and everybody got to run in a full team.
The course was the same as last year, along the sea wall towards Folkestone, up a short sharp hill and then pretty much back to the start to hand over the baton.
It was lovely to see all the runners giving it their all and the support we gave each other.
A big thanks to Asmaa Hatim who stepped into the ladies senior team at the last minute and all the men who made up a very confusing last minute V40 B and C team. Some had no time to warm up and recognizing the rest of their team was quite challenging !?!
The highlight for me was a huge crowd of us waiting and cheering for Tim as he came across the finish line (it was very much appreciated :-) thank you all!!).
