Tuesday 14th July saw the last race in the East Kent ‘summer’ Relay series. Race 6 of 6.
Parking was a bit challenging for runners not turning up early and the captains were sweating on a few runners as 7pm approached. In the end everyone who said they were coming came. So well done and thanks!
Logistics are always a bit challenging with the Canterbury fixture as the trophies/picnic area is a different location to the race start/finish.
There were quite a few comments about the runners being hit with a cricket ball as an informal but quite competitive looking group of young men had started a match right in the middle of the park next to us.
The course was slightly tweaked and at 7pm on a dry, sunny but not too warm evening the first wave were off.
It’s quite a challenging course in that the first mile, if not sensible can be fast! Too fast! As it is slightly down hill and by the subway there were a large crowd of TRAC supporters who were adding to the adrenaline rush.
As a spectator this time it was funny to see the fresh bodies and happy smiling faces as they all came past the subway on the first fast mile. Then when coming out of the subway for the return WELL the facial expressions said it all.
The performances from everyone running and the support from all the cheer leaders made me so proud to be a part of this great club.
We all waited and cheered for our final club runner (this was noted by other clubs) then made our way for a social picnic afterwards while the trophies were organized.
Another great season for our club with 4 trophies in the following categories:
Senior ladies A - 2nd
V55 ladies A - 3rd
V55 ladies B - 3rd
V40 men B - 2nd
Phil and Claire would like to thank everyone who took part this season, especially the ones that had to be swapped around at short notice and those who ran a 2nd leg just to make up a full team.
Also thanks to all the supporters who turned up and helped us get round the course. Especially the biker boys (Ade and Gary).
It’s now time to rest, repair, train and perhaps take on some of the Club Champ Races?!?
