Race report by Lucy Hallett
The Folkestone Coastal 10k is a nice flat route starting at the Coastal Park entrance near the Leas Lift heading to Hythe along the promenade. I did my very first 10k here 2 years ago and could definitely notice how much busier it was at the start. A record number of 952 runners took part, this paired with the strong winds meant I wasn’t expecting a decent PB!
The start line area was packed and I was quite a way back which meant the start was slow. After about 2k into the race I managed to get some clearance but then had to battle against strong headwinds until the halfway mark where we turn back on ourselves to the finish line. There were lots of people cheering along the route and it was a really great atmosphere.

On the way back the sun came out and it then got pretty hot out of the wind – the water stops were very welcome!
I finished the race in 51:53, this was an improvement from my time when I first ran it in 2023 and paired with the crazy start and the strong headwinds I wasn’t expecting a much quicker time. The race was really well organised and I got a lovely medal, finishers t-shirt and plenty of freebies at the end of the race from the race sponsors. It’s definitely one of my favourite 10k races and I will be back next year aiming for a better time!

Race Results:
Charlotte Barton – 46:50 (PB)
